Global awards for independent film by Waves

Some films you plan. Others you feel like you owe.
Waves is the second kind.
We spend our days in deep tech. Virtual production, real-time engines, tools most people never see the inside of. But Waves was ours. An independent film, made because we had something to say, not because a brief asked for it. The tech is how we work. The story is why.
We are storytellers first, and this is the film that proves it.
A doctor. A hospital that won't let him leave. A young daughter waiting at home, alone, counting days that keep multiplying. He is her father. He is also, for the length of the pandemic, one of the people standing between a city and a virus. Those two facts do not fit inside the same day.
Waves is about a man who has to live in that gap anyway.
Father and daughter share one thing they both love: the ocean.
The sound of it, the pull, the way a wave arrives and pulls back and arrives again. That rhythm is their language. It is how they belong to each other.
Then a different kind of wave shows up.
Covid comes in surges, and every surge is another reason he cannot come home. The thing they love turns into the shape of the thing keeping them apart. We never wanted to spell that out on screen. We wanted you to feel it land.
What happens next is the film.
We are not going to hand it to you here.
Who it's really for
Waves is an ode to the people who worked the front lines. The doctors, the nurses, everyone who kept showing up while the rest of us stayed in. Not heroes on a poster. People. People with kids at home, with fear they never got to show, with a job that asked more of them than anyone should have to give.
The resilience it took to keep going is the real subject of this film.
Where it has gone
We are proud of where Waves has traveled.
More than 10 awards. National and international nominations. And a screening at the NCPA in Mumbai, one of the most respected stages in the country.
For a story this personal, watching it hold a room like that meant a great deal to us.
What comes next
Waves is the kind of work we want to keep making at Mach. Stories with weight, told with care, made here for the way we actually feel things.
This is a start, not a peak.
There is more coming.
Watch Waves. Then tell us what the last wave did to you.
